How to Apply for the HABS Peterson
Prize
Students or teams of students of architecture with faculty
sponsorship are eligible to compete for the prize. There is no
entrance fee. Past or present employees of the Historic American
Building Survey, the Historic American Engineering Record, or The

to produce a set of measured drawings made to HABS standards. The
drawings must be of a building that has not been recorded by HABS
through measured drawings or be an addendum to existing HABS drawings,
that makes a substantial contribution to the understanding of the
significant features of the building. Applicants should contact the
HABS office to determine if a structure has already ben recorded.
The opening date for submission to HABS is July 1st, and the
closing date for submission to HABS is June 30. Awards are announced
by the fall.
Additional information may be obtained by contacting the Historic
American Buildings Survey, National Park Service, P. O. Box 37127,

How to Apply for a Christopher
Ludwick Foundation Grant
For two centuries the trustees have fulfilled Christopher Ludwick's
mandate, and applications for projects that advance the education of
poor children in the City of Philadelphia are accepted annually
between February 1st and March 31st. The City of Philadelphia
limitation is strictly followed; no grants will be given for programs
not specifically targeted at children resident within the city limits.
A special application form (which can be downloaded below) must be
used. It can also be requested from the Foundation at The Athenĉum of
Philadelphia (telephone 215-925-2688). As a general rule, the
Foundation makes no grants for building campaigns, endowment drives,
equipment purchases, or general operating support. Nor does it make
direct grants to individuals. No grants are given for programs targeted at children with
disabilities for which other funding sources exist. The Board of
Trustees meets in May and awards are usually announced on or about
June 1.
